Domaines Schlumberger Riesling Grand Cru 'Saering' 2022
Some wines become part of your traditions - this is one of mine.
Whenever I make a classic Swiss cheese fondue, I always reach for this Saering. A generous splash goes into the fondue itself, while the rest of the bottle is poured into glasses to enjoy alongside it. Over the years, it has become something of a ritual, and I genuinely can't imagine one without the other.
That tradition became even more meaningful after visiting Domaines Schlumberger. Walking through the dramatic Grand Cru vineyards above Guebwiller and exploring the estate gave me a far greater appreciation for the people and place behind a wine I'd already loved.
The Saering 2022 is beautifully elegant, combining vibrant citrus, crisp orchard fruit and delicate floral notes with a fine mineral freshness that cuts effortlessly through the richness of the cheese. It's a pairing I return to year after year - not because it's traditional, but because I honestly don't think I've found anything better.
