Quinta de la Rosa 10 Year Old Tawny Port NV (50cl)
The producers you return to year after year are often the ones that become the hardest to live without.
Quinta de la Rosa has been one of those estates for me. I've been fortunate enough to stay at the quinta, where Sophia Bergqvist generously showed me around the vineyards and winery before we tasted through the range together. Since then, I've had the pleasure of seeing Sophia at numerous Oxford tastings, and her wines have featured at almost every college tasting I've hosted over the past five years. It's a producer I've come to know and trust.
This 10 Year Old Tawny is the bottle I return to most often. Rich in dried fruits, roasted nuts and gentle caramel, it has all the complexity you'd hope for, yet carries itself with remarkable freshness. What I love most is its restraint; it's noticeably less sweet than many tawny Ports, allowing the fruit and spice to take centre stage.
Some bottles earn a permanent place on the shelf and this one has certainly earned its place in mine.
