Beau Constantia 'Stella' 2022
The people behind a wine are often just as memorable as the wine itself.
Our visit to Beau Constantia was one of the highlights of our time in South Africa, thanks in no small part to Megan van der Merwe. Warm, welcoming and incredibly knowledgeable, she has that rare gift of slipping wonderfully technical wine insights into conversation in a way that feels completely natural. Whether you're new to wine or have spent years studying it, you somehow leave having learnt something without ever feeling like you're being taught.
It's perhaps no surprise that the wines are every bit as impressive as the people behind them. Stella 2022 is beautifully expressive, layering ripe blackberries and dark cherries with cracked black pepper, fragrant herbs and a gentle savoury note. Rich and powerful, yet polished and wonderfully balanced, it's a Syrah that keeps drawing you back for another sip.
Some bottles are memorable because of what's in the glass. This one reminds me of the people who made the experience so unforgettable.
